Many, but not all thermostats have batteries. We recommend changing thermostat batteries annually to avoid issues. Batteries that are left in place for an extended period of time can prevent equipment from functioning and can begin to corrode in your thermostat, causing damage. It can be helpful to set a recurring reminder in your phone to change the batteries in your thermostat – this is a great time to change the batteries in your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors, as well.

This depends on the type of filter used and how much your system has been running. If your system utilizes a 1-inch-wide filter, we recommend that you check/change the filter once a month. If your system utilizes a high efficiency filter that is 4-inches or wider, it can typically be used for 6 to 12 months. We recommend checking these style filters every 3-4 months. When replacing your air filter, make sure that arrow on the filter points in the direction of airflow (typically toward the side of the furnace).

• Verify that thermostat is set to correct mode of operation. Replace batteries if necessary.
• Verify that circuit breaker for unit is on and furnace switch is on.
• Make sure filter is clean. Replace if necessary.
• Make sure supply registers and returns are open and unobstructed.
• If the area surrounding your air conditioner is over-grown, trim back plant material to allow unit to circulate air.
• In the cooler months, remove leaves and other debris from furnace vents outside.

Yes!  Annual maintenance ensures that your equipment is functioning safely and efficiently. It is also possible to identify and address potential issues with your equipment before it becomes a major problem. It may also be necessary to prove that you are maintaining your equipment if a warranty claim is ever needed. Poorly maintained equipment can lead to higher energy bills and shortened life of equipment.

The typical lifespan of heating and cooling equipment is 15-20 years. If your furnace or A/C unit has become unreliable and repair bills are beginning to add up, it may be a good time to consider replacement options. New furnaces and air conditioners can be much more efficient and deliver a much greater level of comfort in your home.

SEER2 is an acronym for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio. It describes the amount of cooling that an air conditioner provides per unit of energy used to operate. New air conditioners have ratings from a minimum of 14 SEER2 to 25+ SEER2. A higher SEER2 number indicates a more efficient air conditioner. To achieve higher SEER2, the air conditioner typically needs to be paired with a furnace that utilizes an ECM (electronically commutated motor) indoor fan.
